Drainage design is becoming more prevalent these days with an increase in discharge constraints it has to be designed to comply with key documents these being PPS25 Development and Flood Risk and the SuDs Manual. Calculation methodology and compliance with these publications are necessary when designing any new development particularly sustainable housing.

A new residential development of affordable housing local to Lincoln centre required a new access road to be construction from the exisitng highway. The new road and the associated drainage is sustainable and will be adopted. Plot drainage is discharged to soakaways. Full plan submission, drainage calculations and associated liaison with the Local Authority was carried out.

The development of an existing brownfield site in Sheffield to provide sustainable homes for a housing association were proposed. An existing access road was up graded to adoptable standard and whilst utilising the existing drainage connection the discharge was attentuated and storage provided on the site.
Not only was it necessary to gain approval from the water authority but the design had to be in accoradance with the Code for Sustainable Homes.
